Launched in July and running through September 2013, the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, located northeast of the coastal town of El Jadida, is hosting a PSG Football Academy designed for youngsters between the ages of 4 and 16 years. With FIFA-certified professional coaches and experts from the Paris Saint-Germain Football Club (PSG) offering intensive training, this is a fantastic opportunity for budding football superstars – and quite a number from different regions have reportedly signed up for this exciting program to build their skills in Morocco’s premier sport. There are three sessions per day from Wednesday to Sunday, leaving Monday and Tuesday free for trainees and their families to enjoy the resort and surroundings.
PSG is based in Paris, France, and was founded in August 1970 when Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain merged. The club has been playing in Ligue 1 since 1974, and has a host of accomplishments as testimony to the talent of the players. The club’s main rival is Olympique de Marseille, with Le Classique, or Derby de France, being the most hotly contested title. Based in the two largest cities of France, the clubs each have a large fan-base among local and national supporters. This level of competition ensures that players and coaches meet international standards, and it’s this level of expertise that participants in the PSG Football Academy in Morocco will have the benefit of.
Morocco is set to host the 2015 African Cup of Nations, with host cities including Marrakesh, Casablanca, Tangier, Rabat and Agadir. The last CAF tournament hosted by Morocco was in 1988 and as host country, its official team automatically qualifies to play. No doubt in the run-up to the tournament the already considerable interest in football in Morocco will continue to increase, and the youngsters attending the PSG Football Academy will be able to see the techniques they have learned in action on the football field.
